Computer workstation

Principles of computer workstation

CONTEMPORARY
  • The computer workstation is based on modern technological solutions
  • The computer workstation is centrally managed
  • The computer workstation allows the use of both local and cloud solutions
USER-CENTERED
  • The computer workstation is designed and profiled according to the user
  • The computer workstation service is seamless, invisible for the user and location-independent
  • Support is available 24 hours a day, forming the focal point for questions that are referred to other ICT service providers
SAFE AND SUSTAINABLE
  • The computer workstation is secure and trustworthy, while complying with the Estonian Information Security Standard (E-ITS) and the Zero Trust framework
  • The computer workstation is cost-effective for the state
  • The quality and risks of the computer workstation service are constantly monitored

Computer workstation services

The hardware is based on the Estonian IT Centre’s computer workstation standard. Hardware includes the main components of a computer workstation (computer, monitor), but also devices that take into account modern working practices (e.g. smart devices). The service ensures centralised procurement, installation, configuration, management, upgrading, support, logging, monitoring and reporting of workstation hardware.

The software is based on the Estonian IT Centre’s computer workstation standard. Software management involves the centralised and standardised procurement, installation, updating and management of software. The service takes into account the nature of the user’s work, and the software package is tailored to the employee’s profile.

The local area network is separated from the public network and securely managed. A wireless data network (Wi-Fi) will be provided together with the local area network service. A virtual private network (VPN) tunnel is created from the Wi-Fi network, connecting to basic services.

The file service allows employees to share and collaboratively edit work-related files in the cloud and transfer large files. Work files and documents are automatically backed up.

The service allows users to create structured sites (called project-based environments) where you can collaborate with colleagues simultaneously, e.g. manage workflows and share documents and content. As an additional functionality, it is possible to create web forms and applications and integrate them with other services.

The e-mail service offers the management and hosting of e-mail, calendars, contacts and mailing lists. The e-mail service can be used on smart devices, regarding which you can read more under the smart device management service.

Our service provides e-mail verification, including spam detection, content-based verification and an anti-virus solution. The volume and quantity of e-mails sent out is regulated.

The use and design logic of the printing and scanning service will be as uniform as possible for all institutions. This way, users can retrieve their print jobs from all the locations in their domain as needed. If you subscribe to the smart device service, you can also print from your smart device.

The service allows the institution to get an accurate overview of their print volumes, but there is also the option to not use the printing service.

The scanning solution allows users to send materials to their own file service, e-mail address and collaborative environments, while the OCR engine helps to make the documents editable.

The chat service allows for fast and secure information exchange, including internal information, if necessary. The service includes text, voice and video solutions. It can be accessed from a computer and a mobile device, and allows you to store chat information and record voice and video meetings.

Video conferencing allows parties to be brought together securely in a single virtual information space. The stream and recording can also be shared securely with external parties.

User support is operational and available 24/7*. User support is based on a standardised approach, with a single point of contact for all work-related ICT issues (both when using RIT services and other business services).

User support is dedicated to identifying problems before the user notices them. The support service also contributes to raising users’ IT awareness and helps people get familiar with new services. An integral part of the service is reporting.

*Round-the-clock support (including weekends) is being developed. At the moment, IT support is available from 7.30-18.30 on weekdays.

The rights management service provides the institution with access to specific rights, automation and correct timing of management, standardisation and labour savings.

This service allows the institution to manage their smart devices, ensuring secure access to internal IT services. Mobile phones and tablets running Apple iOS/iPadOS and Google Android – both personal and work-related – are considered smart devices.

A distinction is made between work and personal content. The solution enables secure access to the institution’s e-mail, calendar and other resources and services (e.g. printing, intranet) on smart devices.

The collaborative tools service allows users to use cloud-based collaboration environments (e.g. project-based sites, shared editable workspaces) and communication services via text, voice or video.

We define a special solution service as ensuring the security, manageability and operation of non-standard solutions (from hardware devices to centrally managed platforms). Special solutions will be priced separately. However, special solutions still follow the RIT computer workstation principles, including maximum standardisation and central management guarantees.

The service allows users to use end-to-end solutions tailored to the specific needs of the institution. For example, ICT solutions in courtrooms (not only digital proceedings, but also audio and video recording and streaming) allow court proceedings to be performed in a virtual space, if necessary.

On the basis of an order of the Government of the Republic, RIT, as a central purchasing body, carries out public procurement procedures for the purchase of desktop, laptop and tablet computers, monitors, printers and plotters. In addition, RIT has the right to obtain any other items or services necessary to use, enhance the usability of or maintain the aforementioned hardware.
